Our guest instructor for the Riederalp -Aletsch Arena knitting retreat from August 6th to August 13th at Riederalp in Switzerland hails from the west coast of Canada. Take this unique opportunity to learn from her on location in a pristine mountain setting.
Andrea Rangel is an experienced knitter, designer, and educator. She’s the author of Rugged Knits (Interweave/F+W) and her design work has been published in Brooklyn Tweed Wool People, Twist Collective, Interweave Knits, and Knit Scene, as well as independenlty. She’s a trained educator, having taught elementary, middle, and high school for several years before becoming a full-time knitwear designer. Her classes are organized and clear, with a strong understanding of learners and class planning, and always include useful, beautiful workshop handbooks for students to take home.
She will be teaching two workshops at our knitting retreat from August 6th to August 13th at Riederalp in Switzerland.
The Basics of Stranded Colorwork
Two colors of yarn can be used to create an infinite variety of beautiful patterns in knitted fabrics. Take the plunge and learn to work stranded color work. Expert knitter, teacher, and designer Andrea Rangel will guide you through all the elements needed to make striking stranded patterns in your knitting. Learn to read color charts, manage two balls of yarn, catch floats, and create gorgeous smooth fabric while working a fun cowl pattern. You’ll also get hints on how to pick colors that shine together and which yarns will work best for your color work project. Join us and make your knitting colorful!
Finish Your Knits!
Learn to give your hand knits a professional finish. This class will cover all the topics needed to make beautiful finished projects, including bind-offs, seaming, blocking, grafting, and weaving in ends. We’ll practice each technique in class and you’ll go home with a photo tutorial handbook to guide you in future projects. You worked hard on that project; finish it flawlessly!
